Invitation for the recruitment of Woja Hatchery Technician

Location and Working Condition
Location: Majuro, Marshall Islands
2 year contract with 6 month probation period and possibility of extension subject to performance evaluation
Full time (48 hours per week)
Occasional international travel for training or workshops

A. Purpose

The Aquaculture program aims to promote, facilitate and maximize the sustainable development, food security, income and livelihood opportunities through sustainable aquaculture activities.


The Woja Hatchery Technician is responsible for ensuring continued hatchery operation and maintenance of hatchery’s seedlings and equipment.

 

B. Scope of Work

  1. Daily maintenance and cleaning of hatchery’s equipment and tanks are carried on a weekly basis.
  2. Ensure animals raised in hatchery have high survival & growth rate.
  3. Physically assist with brood stock collection, spawning and seedlings distribution.
  4. Assist with recruiting local farmers.
  5. Provide technical support to local farmer through capacity development and training.
  6. Assist with the pilot project/research for potential and viable aquaculture products.
  7. Assist with coordinating logistics with local government/traditional leaders with regards to community consultations and training.
  8. Assist in coordinating sales of local farmers products with buyers including distribution of revenue when needed.
  9. Maintain and clean the outdoor environment/facility area.
  10. Ensure facility and ground are clean and SAFE.
  11. Collaborate with other departments within the Coastal Division, stakeholders, relevant government agencies/ministries and regional organizations in activities relevant to Aquaculture development.
  12. Participate in meetings and workshops as required by the Aquaculture Department.
  13. Contribute to the preparation of annual work plans, budgets, and reports.
  14. Other duties as request by the Aquaculture Development Coordinator.

C. Key Qualification /Experience/Traits

  • Qualification
    • Minimum of an associate degree in Environmental, Marine science, other related fields or minimum two years' experience in the fields.
    • Higher level of education is preferred
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in
    • Knowledge of tropical aquaculture and Mariculture production system appropriate to RMI or coastal fisheries
    • Experience in facilitating community consultations and report writing
    • Willingness to travel and work in the outer islands for extended periods, sometimes under difficult conditions.
    • Must be able to operate a boat
    • Must possess a valid drivers’ license
  • Communication and Language Skills
    • Must have excellent skills in communication writing and public speaking
    • Must be able to speak and write English and Marshallese.

    • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
    • Cultural knowledge and respect for Marshallese customs and traditions.
