Job Title: Fisheries Officer (Boarding & Inspection)

Location: Majuro Atoll

Reports to: Chief Fisheries Officer – Oceanic Division

2 year contract (with 6 month probation period and possibility of extension subject to performance evaluation)

Position Responsibilities/Duties:

·         Work closely with the Oceanic and Competent Authority (CA) Divisions in carrying out the Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS)-related requirements including Catch Documentation Scheme (CDS)activities.

·         Liaise with the RMI Sea Patrol boarding and inspection officers and other relevant Ministries/Agencies on a regular basis.

·         Liaise with fishing vessels and/or local agents on a daily basis. •  Undertake routine boarding and inspection of fishing vessels/facilities utilizing procedures specified under the National Inspection Plan and the CA inspection standards. Assist with ongoing development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for boarding and inspection.

·         Assist in providing Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) tracks for arriving vessels and daily surveillance of vessels in the RMI EEZ.

·         Provide timely reports or information upon request.

·         Comply with relevant data integrity and security policies.

·         Maintain own office equipment and supplies.

·         Attend relevant national and regional trainings/workshops/conferences. 

 

Skills and Qualifications:

 

·         College graduate (desirable)

·         Knowledge of the MIMRA Act and other relevant legislations

·         Excellent interpersonal skills

·         Good understanding of data collection and management.

·         Computer literate and can produce reports

·         Ability to multitask

·         Willing to work outdoors and after hours
